Six Months

001Well that’s gone quick! It’s been six months since I woke up after a huge thunderstorm on the day that I would finally become Mrs Duncan – It still feels so weird calling myself that. On the 4th July 2015 I married my best friend in the most beautiful venue, surrounded by our friends and family.

To mark the occasion I wanted to share a few more pictures from our big day on my blog. If you follow me on Instagram you will have no doubt seen a few, *ahem* a lot, already but here are a few more if you care to take a look…

083002112130161058218216255267270I also want to share a few things that I found out along the way that will hopefully help any future bride out as I know the entire planning process can be a bit overwhelming, so here goes…

Tell your Bridesmaids the details – I kept almost all of the wedding details secret from our guests and I’m glad I did as I wanted them to be surprised on the day. However, I also kept the secrets from my Bridesmaids which I now wish I hadn’t done, simply because it was a bit of an anti-climax. I didn’t want them to see the dress before the day so I wouldn’t let them come to any of the fittings. As much as I thought it was a good idea at the time and I was excited to see their faces when I was in the dress on the day with my hair and make-up done, that didn’t happen. Firstly, how the hell did I plan on getting into the dress without them seeing it first!? And secondly I had to take it out of the bag as soon as I got it to my room to let the creases drop so they saw it then and let me tell you, unzipping a bag doesn’t have the same wow factor that seeing someone in their dress for the first time does. So now I feel like I would have loved to have had them there to help me pick out my perfect dress and also they will literally do anything to help make sure your day goes perfectly so keep them informed!

Make a scrapbook and Pinterest board(s) – I sifted through hundreds of pages of wedding magazines and thousands of Pins to find amazing pictures from real weddings of things I wanted to incorporate into my day. I would tear pages out for my scrapbook and sit at work pinning things onto my Pinterest boards all so that when I met with wedding suppliers, I could show them exactly how I wanted the end result to be. It was especially handy when picking flowers as I could point to the ones I liked instead of having to research flower names – Nobody has time for that when planning a wedding!

Keep in contact with all of the suppliers and ALWAYS have a backup – On the morning of the wedding I was busily getting ready when I noticed things were a bit quiet in the garden. It was an hour before the wedding was meant to start and there was so sign of the Harpist we had booked. I assumed it was due to traffic so I brushed it off and carried on getting ready. Half an hour passed and still there was so sign of her so I asked someone to go check it out. Basically to cut a long story short she never showed. There was no phone call or anything to say she wouldn’t be here and so at the last minute we had to scramble around to find some music for me to walk out to. I ended up with an iPod playing the same song on repeat as myself and my Bridesmaids made our way down the aisle. It wasn’t ideal and at the time I was so disappointed so I would definitely urge you to always have a backup!

On the evening when it came to our first dance the version of the song the DJ played was the wrong one – It was much, much slower than the one we had wanted so I would definitely recommend sending the correct version to the supplier or even copying links from YouTube – It’s better to bombard them with too much information than not enough as I assumed the name of the song and the artist was enough, little did I know there was more than one version!

Don’t get too hung up on the little things – For weeks I would panic about tiny details that I wanted to incorporate into the day to make it special. There was no need to stress – The things that meant so much to me and that I wanted to get perfect probably didn’t even make that much of an impact on anyone else and that was one of the things I wish I had known before the day as it would have saved me so much time.

Enjoy the day – Every wedding will come with it’s ups and downs but you just have to remember to enjoy the day. When you see all of the months of planning come together and the day finally arrives it can become a bit overwhelming. I was constantly checking to make sure people were ok and that everyone was enjoying themselves and I wish I had just taken a minute to see that everything was fine and I didn’t need to worry.

I know I’m by no means a wedding planner but I hope these little tips will help you get the most out of your day.

Well Hello There 2016…

I know you will have seen it everywhere, but seriously where did 2015 go… 2016 kind of just crept up on me and it’s a little scary!

I can’t complain though. It was a particularly good year for me…

In January I popped my snowboarding cherry and went on a week long holiday to Pamporovo in Bulgaria. It was my first time on proper snow and my god it was so hard! After a few bumps, falls and tantrums I decided to hang up the snowboard and I may try my hand at skiing instead…

In June I headed to the Lake District on my hen to celebrate my last few weeks of freedom. It was a great weekend spent with my friends and family and a very low key affair. I’m not much of a party animal – Boring I know, but my friends obviously knew this and planned the most perfect getaway full of food and pampering, two of my favourite things!

In July, after ALOT of planning, I finally tied the knot. It was the most perect day surrounded by friends and family and I couldn’t have wished for a better one, even though there were a few hiccups along the way! I will hopefully be sharing a few more unseen snaps of the day throughout the year maybe to mark our anniversary.

Not long after the wedding (two days to be precise) we jetted off to America on our honeymoon. It’s my first time visiting the States but it will definitely not be my last. We headed to LA, Monterrey and San Francisco and I also decided that if I ever win the lottery I will 100% be moving to San Francisco as it is the most beautiful city!

I’ve made so many memories in 2015 and I hope that 2016 brings just as much fun and laughter. I’ve got a few things in the pipeline like visiting my friend in London in January and I’m also starting an online, certified photography coure. It’s something I’ve always been passionate about and my In-Laws surprised me with it at Christmas. I cannot wait to get started, watch this space! 🙂

Do you have any plans for the New Year!? Lets make it a year to remember…

Pumpkin Picking at Farmer Copley’s

imageAt the weekend Rich and I decided to go pumpkin picking. For as long as we’ve been together we always carve pumpkins at Halloween and obviosuly compete for the title of best one… We drove to Farmer Copley’s in Pontefract where there were over a 1000 pumpkins to choose from – To be honest I was a little overwhelmed, it’s usually just a trip to Tesco’s and you get to choose from a measely few. Not here though! There were standard orange ones, white ones, green ones, blue ones and they ranged from tiny to massive and when I say massive I mean way too big to carry!

Being the indecisive person I am it took me a good hour to choose mine, it had to be the perfect shape and every time I thought I’d found one I picked it up and it was flat underneath! Rich was done in 5 minutes and he’d already washed and taken his back to the car before i’d grabbed a wheelbarrow.

The one I decided on was waaaaaay too big and will probably take me until Halloween weekend to carve, wish me luck!

imageimageimageimageimageimageimageMines the big one in the wheelbarrow, not the one i’m holiding, although that one was my favourite and holds pride of place on the coffee table.imageimageimageThere was a farm shop just at the entrance where we managed to grab something for dinner and also squeeze our own orange juice… It’s the little things!

If your in the area I would 100% recommend heading there as there is so much to see and do and especially if you have kids.

Do you have any Halloween traditions? The next tradition on my list is Christmas tree shopping – Roll on December!

Happy International Cat Day

imageIt’s been a year since I found out there was such a day as International Cat Day – That’s right, as if they didn’t get enough attention already they invent a day dedicated to them. Being the sucker that I am, I obviously couldn’t let it slip by without mentioning my little fur ball – So this post goes out to you Ivy Bear, the most loveable & most ridiculous cat I have ever known. I love you tiny munchkin x

Wedding Diary | Three Weeks To Go

imageThree weeks on Saturday I will finally be walking down the aisle and saying I do! I can’t quite believe how quickly it has come round – It feels like only yesterday I was writing this post – I regret saying ‘oh I’ve got ages to sort that out’ and brushing things to one side because it literally comes round in the blink of an eye and, well I haven’t got ages!

It’s such an exciting time as the months of planning finally start to take shape, decorations that you’ve been collecting over the months come out of storage, things can be finalised and you can start to relax a bit and just look forward to the day… Maybe. If you’re not waking up at 4am in cold sweats that is 😉

I decided to make quite a lot of the bits for the day myself, to add a personal touch, and I can’t wait to share the DIY’s with you after the wedding. For now I’m keeping tight lipped about everything as I want it to be a surprise…

So, there we are! Three weeks to go…

Review | Slendertoxtea

DSC_0001_06I was given the opportunity to try out the Slendertoxtea and I couldn’t wait, I’ve done two teatox’s in the past and I’ve had good results both times so I got all my unhealthy eating out of the way, like you do, and started it. It states on the back of the pack to start on a day when you aren’t at work the following day – For good reason may I add, but more on that later.

Use one teabag in the morning and one every other night for the duration of your teatox. Use a medium sized cup of warm or cold water (not boiling water) and allow to infuse for 3-5 minutes or as long as you wish but NO longer than 6 minutes. Sweeteners or honey may be added, but personally we prefer it without as it already tastes great!

I brewed up my first Daytox bag for three minutes and waited for it to cool slightly. It tasted nice – It was quite similar to green tea and I drink a lot of that anyway so for me it was pleasant. If you don’t like green tea then you may struggle, but that goes for any teatox, it isn’t like drinking a nice english breakfast tea every morning like some people think when you say ‘teatox’. Daytox Ingredients – Hawthorn Grain, Red Bean, Sterling Bean, Radish Leaf, Camellia Seed, Camellia Flower, Green Tea, Fennel Seeds.
DSC_0017_03At first there was no change in how I was feeling so on the nighttime I made my Sleeptox a couple of hours before bed and again waited for it to cool a bit before drinking. This tasted similar to the Daytox tea so for me it was better than than the teatox I’ve done in the past which is peppermint – Yuk! The Sleeptox contains one extra ingredient, Valerian Root which is a natural sedative so it helps promote sleep and boy did I sleep! That was until 3am when I woke up with the worst stomach pain. Off I went to the loo and all hell broke loose – Exactly the reason they say to start on a day when you aren’t at work the next day. I went back to bed and woke again at 8am with exactly the same pain so off I popped to the loo. I’m pretty sure you can imagine when I say ‘loo’ what I’m talking about – I don’t have to go into too much detail, but this kept happening every few hours. I couldn’t leave the house incase I got the pain again while I was out so I stayed pretty close to the toilet all day.

I brewed up my second Daytox bag and drunk that and I can honestly say I was running backwards and forwards all day – That’s probably how you loose the weight come to think of it! You only drink the Sleeptox every other night so I didn’t have one that night. I woke up the next day feeling fine – I wasn’t bloated, although for good reason. I hadn’t eaten much the day before due to the stomach cramps and what I had eaten had gone straight through me (TMI I know, but it is an honest review after all)!

I drank my third Daytox and was fine for the rest of the day so I could venture out and actually enjoy my day off. On the evening I made myself a sleeptox, went to bed and woke to exactly the same pains in my stomach – It wasn’t until 8am this time when my alarm actually went off, but you can sort of imagine what happened next and for the rest of the day, every couple of hours to be precise.

After reading a few reviews online I realised that it wasn’t just me that was having these reactions from the tea, but a lot of other people had stopped using it after 3 days because it didn’t make you feel ‘refreshed & detoxed’ but it made you feel like crap and actually a little frightened incase there wasn’t a toilet nearby! I decided to carry on using it just to see if the symptoms stopped or reduced after your body had time to get used to it, but they didn’t. In the end I persisted with it for a week, but I couldn’t carry on feeling rubbish every other day, so honestly – This is not the teatox for me. I’ve done the Bootea teatox in the past and I was getting exactly the same results (less bloated, more energy etc…) but I wasn’t getting the excruciating stomach cramps like with the slendertoxtea and I could actually do things with my day instead of running backwards and forwards to the toilet every few hours.

I guess in the end it does exactly what it’s meant to do, but I wouldn’t recommend the Slendertoxtea  as it can’t be a healthy way to detox and lose weight right? I would love to know if you have ever tried the slendertoxtea or any other teatox and what you thought of it?

*The Slendertoxtea was gifted to me via The Bloggers Hub – All words are my own (if you hadn’t already guessed)!

Kiss-Air Candles | Ice Cream Inspired Scented Candles

DSC_0015_01On the 2nd June Kiss-Air Candles launched a new range of Ice Cream inspired scents to add to their ever-growing collection of natural soy wax candles and I was lucky enough to try two of them out. It was a VERY tough decision choosing two out of the five, but I finally decided on Salted Caramel & Mango Sorbet. My mouth is watering thinking about Ice Cream now…

Our Salted Caramel candle is a delectable fragrance with top notes of sweetened creamed butter and sea salt; followed by caramel all sitting on base of vanilla and sweetened condensed milk.

The entire Ice Cream collection consists of Salted Caramel, Mango Sorbet, Mint Choc Chip, Rum and Raisin & Black Cherry. Can you begin to see why it was a difficult decision?

Half an hour into burning Mango Sorbet we had guests round and they commented on how nice the flat smelt – Now I know for a fact that smell wasn’t me so it must have been the candle!

Our Mango Sorbet candle is a refreshing blend of ripe mango, lemons and juicy raspberries.

I can honestly say these are some of the best candles I have ever used – The smell is so strong it fills the entire room. They aren’t too sickly sweet either like you would probably imagine from Ice Cream scents. It definitely makes me want to get out my deckchair and beach ball and head for the seaside.

Each large tin (pictured) burns for approximately 25 to 30 hours and are priced at £8.50 each. They are handmade in Cambridgeshire using natural soybean wax and premium fragrances to give a cleaner and long lasting burn. The candles are presented in large gold tins wrapped in bright coloured labels that carry Kiss-Air’s signature bow design so not only do they smell great, they look great too.

To get the most out of your candle I would suggest burning it for a good few hours at a time – That way it will burn all the way around instead of just down the centre and you will find it lasts much longer. Be sure to take care as the tins will become hot throughout burning and also place them on a heatproof mat to avoid marking furniture.

You can shop the entire Ice Cream collection on the website here and while you’re there be sure to check out the other scents. FYI they have over 30!

Have you or will you be trying any of the Kiss-Air Candles?
